Ogier: “My obsession: to win the title by beating Loeb”

Volkswagen’s star driver Sebastien Ogier is confident that new World Rally Championship team has the potential to chase titles right from the word go next year. German manufacturer will join the fray next year as fourth works team and so far only Ogier has been confirmed for drivers line-up.

“Next year we will have a chance in fighting for the World Championship titles, and I cannot wait. There are many rivals to beat but to win the title by beating Sebastien Loeb would be more valuable. Not many drivers managed to beat him, but this is my obsession” Ogier said.

Frenchman will compete in this year’s WRC season behind the wheel of Škoda Fabia S2000 while at the same time testing and preparing Volkswagen’s own machine, Polo R WRC.

“The car I will be able to test and develop will be the first proper WRC machine by Volkswagen, not the demonstration prototype used by Carlos Sainz at the car’s presentation. I am confident we will do very good job, I’m surrounded by excellent group and everyone is very motivated. If title evades us in 2013 then in 2014 we are certainly favourites.”

Ogier recently received high praise from two-times world champion and Volkswagen’s advisor Carlos Sainz, who tipped 28-year old Frenchman to become next world champion. However, chance of Ogier and Loeb again crossing swords, this time in different teams, largely depends on how fast Volkswagen’s team gains speed. Another important fact is Loeb is seriously considering retirement so Ogier and VW better pick up their pace! :)
