Volkswagen Motorsport II with Andreas Mikkelsen and ?

Latest version of FIA’s manufacturer team entries for 2013 World Rally Championship reveals a new team. Named Volkswagen Motorsport II, this team will join the action in Portugal, for the round 4, starring Andreas Mikkelsen in one Polo R WRC.

Of course, a new team could also mean a new spot for a driver of the second car, if Volkswagen decides to sport two Polos for the remainder of the season.

Good thing is, Volkswagen can be very picky, if they opt for the second car, because there is no shortage of talent, but young and, well, more experienced. From the likes of Ott Tanak and several other young drivers German team tested last year, to the experienced champions such as Petter Solberg, to name but one. It would also help in breaking that vicious circle of drivers lacking proper experience and thus not being able to secure a seat in a top team.

Oh, and after they introduce second car to their “B team”, Volkswagen should also join R5 and R2 scene on WRC level, for even more sweet opportunities for emerging talents!

For now, Andreas Mikkelsen is confirmed and will join Sebastien Ogier and Jari-Matti Latvala for round 4 in Portugal next month. Anything on top of that is just a bonus, and a very welcome one!
