Acropolis Rally trades altitude for tarmac

Acropolis Rally and European Rally Championship, it will take some time to get used to this new combo. On the other hand, ERC lived up to many, if not all, expectations last year, featuring new format and revamped approach to media coverage and promotion. For this year the series features new calendar and new competitors. One of the events making up the 2014 ERC calendar is the legendary World Rally Championship event, Acropolis Rally.

New series, new date and therefore new layout of the event features tarmac stages as well as traditionally grueling gravel tests. Organizers say this change had to be made because of the high risk of rain or snow in the high altitude mountain stages. Three tarmac stages were picked instead for the first day of the event. Good call or doom call? Time will tell.

Official Acropolis Rally statement:

“We are more than certain that the three Tarmac stages in the north eastern part of Peloponnese will satisfy even the most skeptical follower of our event and will give to all competitors the opportunity to drive in some exciting landscapes of our country and on stages with a big variety of corners, difficulties and surfaces.”
