Dani Sordo claims victory on SSS

First special stage just finished for top seeded crews and it was Prodrive’s Dani Sordo taking the fastest time and early lead. Sordo was flying through the short super special and with 1:34.2 took top spot with 3 tenths ahead of Mads Ostberg. Third place went to Ott Tanak with further 3 tenths.

Stage did not offer much in terms of action but as Petter Solberg puts it, it’s also a matter of prestige and victory is always nice way to start off the rally. Solberg himself was involved in closest battle of SS1 with Sebastien Loeb, with both drivers clocking exact same time and sharing fourth spot in overall standings.

Mikko Hirvonen took sixth spot with 1,5 seconds slower run compared to Sordo and Jari-Matti Latvala ended up seventh. Mini’s new factory team ended well outside top 10.
