Petter Solberg fastest in qualifying

Former world champion Petter Solberg managed fastest time on 5 kilometer qualifying stage and will be the first one to select starting position for tomorrow’s first leg of Rally Mexico.

Following Solberg second place went to Mikko Hirvonen. Similar to Solberg, Hirvonen said he did not want to risk and push too much, but he was obviously pushing enough to be faster than Sebastien Loeb. Frenchman’s efforts were not helped by problems he had going off the start line, but with third spot he is still in a very good position for tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Jari-Matti Latvala was clearly upset and expressed his concerns at the end of qualifying stage. Ford’s driver could not explain lack of pace compared to Solberg and Citroën’s duo of Hirvonen and Loeb. He also said he will take a close look at what Petter did with his setup.

Similar to Sweden, honor to open the stages tomorrow will most likely go to Paulo Nobre of WRC Mini Team Portugal after setting the slowest time on qualifying stage.
