Rally New Zealand is undoubtedly one of the most iconic events of the World Rally Championship and it’s really too bad it has to jump in and out of calendar to make way for another famous classic, Rally Australia.
Perhaps the most important fact about New Zealand is the praise this event gets from the drivers – fast and flowing roads are perfectly shaped to offer just the right amount of technical challenge while at the same time let drivers keep fair amount of speed. And that will make any driver happy.
Given the nature of New Zealand stages, both current and the ones situated around the former HQ in Auckland, it’s no wonder all videos and photos are simply amazing – what can beat having a rally car tear through the scenery from J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle Earth?
I picked one particular video dating back to 2008 and featuring Dani Sordo and Marc Marti in their Citroën C4 WRC on special stage 10. Spaniard is back this year, leading Prodrive’s one-car attack.
