Marcus Grönholm to remain in hospital after X Games shunt

Another freak accident happened during X Games in Los Angeles and this time Marcus Grönholm was the one to be carried out on a stretcher and taken to hospital. Former world rally champion hit the concrete base of one of the lighting poles and since the crash happened at high speed, deceleration shock was strong enough to knock the Finn unconscious.

Grönholm’s team issued a brief statement with latest updates on Marcus’ condition. World Rally Blog wishes him a speedy recovery!

Los Angeles, CA, Sunday July 1, 2012, 1100hrs PDT local/2000hrs CET. Rallycross driver Marcus Grönholm sustained an accident during the X Games GRC seeding round yesterday in Los Angeles.

Marcus was taken to hospital in Los Angeles for assessment of his injuries. Attending doctors are pleased that Marcus is conscious, alert and talking and has full limb mobility. Following his initial assessment, doctors confirmed this morning that his condition has improved overnight following a night’s sleep and rest.

Marcus will remain in hospital for ongoing observation and further tests and is benefiting from the best acute medical care.
