Blast from the WRC past: Sebastien Loeb, Monte Carlo 2004

Sebastien Loeb is still a part of the World Rally Championship, even though he is spending more time around race tracks these days, while also preparing for some cloud chasing in hill climb races.

But with nine world champion titles under your belt, you cannot simply walk away from the sport you dominated for many years. Alright, so he didn’t actually walk away from it, seeing he will take part in at least four WRC events  this year, but he is more of a has-been these days. In the most flattering way, mind you!

Rewind to almost 10 years ago, and Sebastien Loeb was in his first title winning year. It all started in Rallye Monte Carlo, which Sebastien conquered, driving one of the Citroën’s most beautiful and effective rally cars, Xsara WRC. He went on to win six events that year, and unlike 2003., which he lost by one point to Petter Solberg, he won his first title.

For this little trip down the memory lane, here’s a photo of Mr. Loeb in his Xsara on one of the  Monte’s many hairpins. What started on that rally, lasted for almost a decade!
