Volkswagen takes some time off to prepare for more work

After taking part in all events of this year’s World Rally Championship so far, Volkswagen decided to skip the lengthy travel to New Zealand and take a breather.

German team believes this will enable them to keep the momentum, with extensive testing programme of new Polo R WRC will see them visit Finland and Germany for further live runs with the new car.

At the same time Volkswagen also wants to just kick back and relax a bit.

“It also gives us the time to give the people some time off because we have had some very busy months with doing all the events and the intense development programme of the Polo R WRC. From August onwards it will be again very busy for the team with six events in four months and the testing until the end of the year. We have to be ready in January and so the testing will be speeded up towards the end of the year,” said Sven Smeets, Volkswagen Motorsport team manager.

So far it still remains unknown whether Volkswagen plans to enter any WRC event with Polo this year. Also, we still have no idea who will partner Sebastien Ogier in second Polo next year.
