Citroën’s double infringement in Portugal

In Portugal Mikko Hirvonen was stripped of victory due to illegal clutch plate and during same scrutineering check stewards discovered irregularities in turbo charger of his Citroën DS3 WRC.

Finn was initially disqualified from the results of Rally Portugal due to clutch issue, and turbo was sent to further testing and checks. Citroën explained the issue of turbine wheel dimension not meeting homologated numbers by blaming tear and wear.

However, after further checks FIA revealed turbine wheel was also in breach of technical rules, so Hirvonen would have been disqualified on the grounds of that breach as well.

We can probably expect Mikko to include turbine wheel in his upcoming new “Coming to…” video.
